The Indigenous School-based Traineeship Program is designed to support students into viable career pathways.  Students may participate in part-time work while they’re still at school, undertake a School-based Traineeship during Year 11 and 12, or commence a post-school Apprenticeship when they finish Year 12.

School-based Traineeships include:

  • 1 day a week paid employment at a traineeship wage
  • 1 day a week TAFE (or other training provider) in a Certificate Level course                                 appropriate to your child’s work place
  • Continuing engagement in school to gain a High School Certificate

What CONNECT will do to support your child:

  • Provide work-readiness workshops and support to prepare your child for work
  • Identify part-time employment, Traineeship or Apprenticeship opportunities with a local     employer
  • Support your child to balance work, TAFE, and keeping up with school assignments (for         part-time employment or School-based Traineeships)
  • Provide ongoing mentoring to address any issues which may create obstacles for your           child’s successful engagement with employment and training

“My daughter Sophie Williams has been a part of the pathway in school-based traineeship for 2 years now. We have found it wonderful for her to be a part. It helped to build her confidences up and show them life skills and how to work in a workplace. She enjoyed being a part of the program and we hope it will go on to other younger generation who want to take it on. Just wanna say thanks to Connect for giving her the opportunity to be a part of the wonderful program. All the best - keep helping our mob out!”
